eBay to exempt Second Life from virtual item exchange ban.

ebay.jpg

Known as “gold farming”, the process of selling in-game items for real money online has been a popular past-time or full-time job for many over the years. People would list characters, items, or full accounts on eBay for big bucks.

Just recently eBay has declared that all virtual items will be de-listed from auction, and a ban across these sales. The ban is due to “legal complexities” and “the health of the marketplace”. Everything from WoW gold, to Everquest items is being de-listed. After all, in most games selling property for real money is a breach of the terms of service which the player agrees to. It would seem that only one well-known game has been exempt from this ban, known as Second Life. The exemption comes from a hazy line as to whether Second Life can actually be classified as a game.

Creators of Second Life Linden Lab are happy about it, but this ban may significantly hurt or even shut down many farming operations around the globe.

Dark Knight casting news

logo-btas.jpg

Batman cast rumours are always fun and now Latino Review is reporting that the Penguin (rumoured to be played by Philip Seymour Hoffman) will not be in the Dark Knight, but it is unknown whether this was ever true or was a recent change in the script.

Also director Christopher Nolan is supposably deciding between three actors for the role of Harvey Dent (Two Face) after his first choice Matt Damon turned the role down. The three actors causing his casting dilemma are Edward Norton, Jamie Foxx and Josh Lucas. Personally I don’t understand the problem here, Josh Lucas doesn’t have the acting chops and Jamie Foxx is wrong in all ways for the role including the fact that Harvey Dent isn’t black (and I don’t care if he was played by Billy Dee Williams in the original Batman, that role was a joke). So the obvious choice is Norton, who is not only is a fine actor but he also suits the role incredibly well.

If you want to see the character of Harvey Dent in all his glory I recommend watching Batman: The Animated Series, especially the two part episode “Two-Face”.

GO3 – Perth Australia, featuring Hideo Kojima

go3-copy.jpg

GO3, an Electronic Entertainment Expo will be hitting Perth for 3 days, from March 30th, to April 1st.

It’s looking to be quite an event for developers and consumers, especially with Hideo Kojima just announced as joining the line-up.

What Hideo will be talking about is unknown, but he’ll be doing it alongside a large variety of famous game-names, such as Masaya Matsuura, Goichi Suuda (from Grasshopper Manufacture), Tetsuya Mizuguchi, and Rod Fergusson (from Epic Games)

Most of the big names in the industry will also be making an appearance, with a distinct lack of Sony presence. Examples are Altech, QANTM and MSI, alongside the heavyweights Nintendo, Microsoft and Nvidia.

The event will also feature an array of LAN events and competitions. Not to be missed for those accessible to Perth.

SEGA present – “Crush” for PSP

A genuinely interesting title from SEGA seems to be rare these days. This is changing now, with the upcoming game “Crush” for PSP. Crush is a platformer that delves into both 2D and 3D. It sees the player manipulating (crushing) a 3D environment into a 2D state, allowing you to overcome challenges and solve puzzles. Check out the demo here -

Spandex and Turtles

I got two brand new trailers for you, and first up we have the hilarious trailer for Will Ferrell and Jon Heder’s new comedy Blades of Glory. The film follows two rival male figure skaters who get stripped of their medals and banned from the sport. Years later they find a loop hole which allows them to compete in the doubles competition.

The other new trailer is for the brand new 3D computer animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. TMNT seems to be a fusion of cool animation and extremely horrible jokes.

New 300 Poster and TV Spot

Well we’re finally back and to kick it off here is a brand new poster and TV spot for the highly anticipated 300. The TV spot isn’t very different from previous trailers except for an awkwardly edited joke at the end.

Silent Hill movie sequel.

Apparently already “well underway”, film director Christophe Gans yesterday confirmed that we’re to expect a Silent Hill 2 movie in the future. Although the film is now set for production, exactly who will be writing/directing this film is uncertain.

Christophe’s main concern is whether he’ll have enough time to do it, due to his current work on an Onimusha film.

Whether the sequel is maintaining it’s original director, it appears writer for Silent Hill Neil Gaiman (Gayman?) won’t be in on the new film. His blog provided a bit of insight into the situation.

Hopefully whoever ends up making this will stick to the original style and quality of the first movie. It’s rare to get a movie based on a game that doesn’t suck. I felt Silent Hill was one of those occasions.
