It’s been fact for quite some time that Hideo Kojima has been preparing for a Metal Gear Solid movie. Just recently, it has come to light that Sony Pictures Entertainment will be working with him to develop and produce this movie.
What interests me is where the need for such a film comes from. MGS is well renown for it’s ratio of videos to gameplay, with some cut-scenes taking around 20 minutes in the middle of the game. They’re well produced, epic stories with great direction and narrative. So why is a movie essential? I guess this is the opportunity Hideo is wanting to go all out on the cinematic dramatics, but it will still be quite bizarre to see and hear another Snake at the cinema. Unless they get David Hayter to play Snake.
In the same announcement, Sony Pictures Entertainment vice chairman Yair Landau also suggested an Everquest movie being in the works.
This game to movie fad is rapidly turning into an epidemic, and has grown quite a bit since the Kylie Minogue in skin-tight camouflage suit days.
