Hitman trailer

hitman.jpg

The guys over at Joblo have gotten their grubby mitts on the first trailer for the video game adaptation, Hitman. The trailer is very cool and just spot on to the games. I always thought Timothy Olyphant was a good choice to play Agent 47 and hopefully this will silence all the haters.

You can check out the trailer over at Joblo.

Iron Mutha f***ing Man

nick-fury.jpg

One of my favourite comics from the last couple of years, The Ultimates, had a couple of joke pages where the Avengers were deciding who would play them in a movie. They came up with Brad Pitt as Captain America, Johnny Depp as Iron Man, Matthew McConnaughey as Giant Man, Lucy Lui as Wasp, Steve Buscemi as Bruce Banner, and finally Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. It’s a pretty good list that quite quickly I knew wasn’t going to happen. Pitt is too high profile to play Captain American and isn’t even that right for the role, Robert Downey Jnr. who is just as good as Depp for the character got cast as Iron Man, Matthew McConnaughey would never play a brilliant scientist and a wife beating arsehole, Lucy Lui (as they point out in the comic) isn’t the only Asian actress in Hollywood, and the second Hulk is coming up and Steve Buscemi still hasn’t been cast even though I think he’s perfect for the role. That just leaves Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, and according to Ain’t it Cool News that’s exactly what’s happening in the upcoming Iron Man movie as a set up for the eventual Avengers movie. Well ain’t that mutha f***ing sweet!

Fun “Fact”:You can check out the full conversation in The Ultimates here (1, 2, 3) and buy the comic here.

Hulk Smash!… again

theincrediblehulkteaser.jpg

The Hulk like Daredevil was both a box office and critical flop, however unlike Daredevil I actually liked The Hulk. Apparently I was in the minority as the upcoming The Incredible Hulk will be a complete revamp with new actors (Edward Norton, Tim Roth, Liv Tyler), director (Louis Leterrier) and writer (Zak Penn). Now this is all pretty old news but what isn’t is this brand spanking new teaser poster thanks to the folks over at /film. Sure it’s just a silhouette and doesn’t show us the rumoured slight skin colour change but at least it’s something other than a giant transforming robot alien.

Fun “Fact”: I really f’ing hated Daredevil.

No targets in the UK for Manhunt 2.

While Rockstar’s sequel to one of the goriest games ever will soon hit Wii, PSP and PS2, gamers in the UK hungry for the slaughter will be left out. The decision was made recently by the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) who must have seen Manhunt 2 pushing the “attempt to kill people in the most violent manner possible for fun” a tad over-the-top.

Having played the first Manhunt, this really isn’t much of a surprise to me. The interesting news is that this is one of the only two games to be straight-up banned throughout the UK. Carmageddon was banned over 10 years ago, and is still a fun game to date.

manhunt-2.jpg

There’s a whole bunch of quotes and reports from the high-ups, such as BBFC director David Cooke -

“Manhunt 2 is distinguishable from recent high-end video games by its unremitting bleakness and callousness of tone in an overall game context which constantly encourages visceral killing with exceptionally little alleviation or distancing. There is sustained and cumulative casual sadism in the way in which these killings are committed, and encouraged, in the game.”

Fair game I say. The original was way cool, but way intense. From your first glass shard in the jugular, you knew Rockstar were trying to get a reaction.

Anyway, one quote I found amusing from Paul Jackson, the director of ELSPA

“A decision from the BBFC such as this demonstrates that we have a games ratings system in the UK that is effective. It shows it works and works well. Any decision the BBFC takes, it takes on the basis of its remit to rate onscreen entertainment.”

Well tops. I guess the fact they’ve banned something proves that they work, right? Having something done doesn’t mean it’s been done right, all it means is the BBFC haven’t done nothing at all.

Transformers Premiere

When I was a kid, there were a few things I really wanted to do. Be an astronaut, play Rugby League for St George, and play in a band to a full crowd. Considering my maths sucked, I was knocked out twice in one Rugby League game and playing the Saxophone no-longer draws crowds, chicks or record deals, when I received an e-mail from Liam telling me he couldn’t come to Sydney and I was the one who had to cover the Transformers movie, you could forgive me for thinking that he was kidding me. When I found out he wasn’t joking, you could probably forgive me for screaming out at the top of my lungs a giant ‘Woo Hoo!’… Well, I thought I’d be forgiven, but apparently my boss is still upset because I ‘Was acting like a four year old’.

Stupid woman… My shoe size is an 8 and a half.

So I rock up at the pre-screening of a movie I’ve been waiting for since I was a kid. Optimus Prime, Megatron, Prowl, Bumblebee, Soundwave, Starscream, Thundercracker, the Constructicons and one of my all time favourites – Grimlock. Names and ‘faces’ that taught me the value of an imagination and made me wish I was in Spike Witwiky’s place… Without the whole paraplegic thing.

I greet Scott Rhodie, who graciously parts with my ticket to the event, and grab a coffee from the local Gloria Jeans. I take a browse around and, although slightly annoyed at the announcers’ continual rants, couldn’t wipe the smile off my face as I kept repeating to myself “I’m going to see Transformers, and I’m going to see it before 99% of the population in Australia!”

Little did I know that it wasn’t just 99% of the population in Australia, but it was 99% of the population in the world!

Shoot’Em Up Trailer

seu1.jpg

Clive Owen is a badass and he knows it. This is only proven by the fact that his new movie is called Shoot’Em Up and looks like a no holds barred, full on action packed movie extravaganza. Also helps when your co-star is mega hottie Monica Bellucci, and your baddie is the uber creepy but always funny Paul Giamatti. Check out the brand new trailer below.

Fun “Fact”: If he could pull off a New York accent Clive Owen would be my first choice to play Max Payne in a feature film based on the Max Payne video games.
