Review: Iron Man (XBOX 360)

Developer - Secret Level (XBOX 360, PS3);
Artificial Mind And Movement (Wii, PS2, PSP, DS, PC)
Publisher - SEGA
Available on - Everything!

Creating an enjoyable Iron Man video game shouldn’t be too difficult. Somehow the concept of a man in a flying metal suit with regenerating projectiles sounds like one that would work for a game. Others may have noticed this, as while Iron Man has this game all to himself he has appeared many times before along other Marvel heroes and in many CAPCOM fighting mash-ups.

So Iron Man should be a great game, after all, it’s Iron Man. Perhaps if a development studio were given a backlog of Marvel comics and told to make it happen, something more substantial could have come into fruition. Unfortunately what has happened, is yet another popular franchise has spawned a hugely successful film resorting in a mass spew of poorly rushed and underdeveloped video games to cash in on the market while it’s there. Know Your Gaming Movies

When a movie is released based entirely on the intellectual property of a video game, some hesitance arises. These game-to-film adaptations hold little roots in the history of movies as few have managed to prove successful.

Fortunately a few outliers lay faith in the game to film conversion process. While films such as Street Fighter prove that poorly made adaptations can still prove profitable, recent hit series such as the Resident Evil films show you can do most things right and shed some light for other gaming enthusiast film directors.

So with a lot of recent announcements along the lines of Bioshock and World Of Warcraft I took it upon myself to investigate and hunt down all films currently in production that are based off an original video game intellectual property. So here’s a list. Read more [+]

Call Of Duty – World At War Info

Yesterday Activision followed up the circling rumors on Call Of Duty 5 to announce the next chapter in the popular FPS franchise, Call Of Duty : World At War.

This next installment will be akin to Call Of Duty 3, leaving the hands of the series’ original creators Infinity Ward, to be solely developed by Treyarch. While CoD 3 only surfaced on home consoles, this next chapter is scheduled to hit all home consoles as well as PC towards the end of this year. Read more [+]

Grand Theft Auto III is one of the greatest and most impactive video games in the industry to date. Fortunately my job here is to explain how and why this came about, as I know arguing otherwise would be most futile and pointless. Read more [+]

Ubidays ’08 – Gaming At The Louvre

Who said games aren’t art? Recently Ubisoft decided to show off their latest wares at their prominent Ubidays 08 event, going down in style at the Louvre Museum, Paris. Apart from lots of coverage on already known works such as Far Cry 2, a slew of promising sequels and more vague titles were announced throughout the event, so I’m going to run through what’s new to the scene from Ubisoft. Brisbane Gamer’s Meetup 05/07/08

Hosted by the dynamic duo at Australian Gamer, Matt and Yug are again set to light up the rooftops of Brisbane’s ‘The Valley’ Saturday 5th July.

Dubbed as an un-official after party for Gen Con Oz, there’s no excuse not to come if you’re in the Brisbane area attending Gen Con or not. I’ll be there, and if that doesn’t seal the deal expect a projector for console gaming, BBQ, ball pit, BYO alcohol and general tomfoolery.

Having been to the first two I can assure these are a blast and attract a good crowd of mature gamers. Bring some drinks (if you drink of course), your party hat, a good attitude and you’ll be sure to fit in. Extra kudos to anyone bringing a DS or PSP, so I won’t be the only one!
