Confirmed – Star Wars: The Old Republic

The previously discovered reunion of Bioware and LucasArts led many to assume of an impending Star Wars MMO and they were of course dead right.

Star Wars: The Old Republic has been announced as the second massively multiplayer online game for the Star Wars franchise. It’s the first MMO for BioWare so taking their previously proven RPG crafting skills online could prove quite prosperous.

To be set as a prelude to the films events, except more and more news to trickle out on this one…

Alan Awakes

It’s been a good two years since any substantial content for Alan Wake has arisen so this new trailer for the hotly anticipated psychological thriller is a true joy.

With a first proper insight into the character and plot for Alan Wake this trailer puts new light on a brooding hit.

No release date on this one yet.

Obama’s hip and Palin’s Gangsta

The U.S election is coming to an end soon so each party’s supporters are pulling out all the stops to promote the people they want to lead America for the next four years. First up is old school style hip hop artist MC Yogi who believes Barrack Obama to be the future and he tells it in his song Vote for Hope and it’s highly stylised video.

On the republican side things are a bit bleaker when it comes to young voters especially with John McCain’s Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin getting berated in the media and on the internet. So in a smart decision Palin has gone from shying away from the media to full on embracing it in a hilarious appearance on Saturday Night Live.

LittleBigPlanet Units Recalled Worldwide

The biggest title for Sony this Christmas is definitely LittleBigPlanet, so sudden news of a delay on the PS3 blockbuster has hit a nerve on many pre-ordering gamers.

It’s only brief, while LittleBigPlanet’s initial release date of next week has only been pushed back to “the week of October 27th” the cause of the delay is what’s most interesting in this case.

In a world of continuous battles against violence sex and drug use in video games this time around a completely kiddy friendly title has felt some pressure entirely due to specific music use. A Muslim user has picked up on a level in LittleBigPlanet playing background music sampling lines from the Muslim Qu’ran and rapidly pointed it out in a thread on Playstation forums. Read more [+]

It’s only a quick teaser trailer but I’m still intrigued.

Canned Geek Podcast – Episode 25: Spike Lee Is A Pirate

In this podcast we merge pirate elements of the proposed September show and mix with geeky topics relevant in the month October. The three of us discuss how Youtube lets you hear how stupid you are, the Australian version of Top Gear, an overproduced snack aimed at gamers, some unimportant anti-video game lawyer, American Politics, Doctor Steel and the wonderful Wall-E.

You can download the podcast from the Canned Geek website.

Review: Wall-E

The universe we live in is remarkable. It’s beautiful, massive beyond comprehension and is filled with wonder and mysteries. The fact that life even came to be is extraordinary considering the chain of events that occurred over billions of years for things to take on their present form: humans included. Yet, we can forget this. To quote Terry Pratchett: “…in a universe so full of wonders, they (humans) have managed to invent boredom.” Pixar’s latest animated feature film, Wall-E, is here to remind us how remarkable life, the universe and everything can be.
