The Last Airbender teaser

M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender (an adaption of the Emmy award winning Nickelodeon animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender) has been on my radar for a while but with little reason to think it won’t just be Dragonball Evolution all over again. Well the teaser trailer is out and it actually looks pretty cool, sure it doesn’t show us much of what the movie will be and Shyamalan has a habbit of releasing great trailers for subpar films but it’s something and shows us that the star Noah Ringer has got some sweet moves. Now if only they could come up with a non-racist reason for the white-washed cast.

HBO’s The Pacific trailer

The greatest thing to ever grace the television screen was the HBO mini-series Band of Brothers and don’t even try to argue otherwise because I will slap you down. Producers Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks are back this time with The Pacific. Check out the trailer below.

In case your wondering, yes it does star the kid from Jumanji.

Review: Strait Jacket

straitjacketDVD

At first the setting of Strait Jacket appears to be somewhere in the middle of the twentieth century. There are steam trains, industrial factories and lots of quaint architecture. But despite this homeliness, in the world of Strait Jacket magic is a common but vital technology that has been harnessed by humans and is used in everything from agriculture to medicine. It’s a potentially great concept and visually the world is well developed, seamlessly blending the technology and look of several decades from the twentieth century with the bulky metal of Japanese science fiction technology. But there’s a grave danger to using magic. It requires the use of a body shell called a ‘mold’ to prevent a magic user from mutating. If the mold fails, the sorcerer transforms into a monster called a demon. These demons are giant nightmarish creatures that kill everyone they encounter. On top of that, they aren’t harmed by conventional weaponry – but can only be killed by magic. Despite this risk, magic remains an important technology. In order to quickly destroy any demons who appear, there exists a combat squad of magic users known as Strait Jackets. Read more [+]

E3 2009: Left 4 Dead 2

Shown during Microsoft’s press conference at E3 was a trailer for Left 4 Dead 2, the sequel to 2008′s popular zombie apocalypse simulator.

Set on the south side of America, Left 4 Dead 2 will star 4 new survivors as they trek from Georgia to Louisiana in another attempt for survival against hordes of infected, special infected and Tanks in overalls.

The trailer shows off new melee weapons such as chainsaws, axes and baseball bats all being used in the stark daylight – so despite a lack of gameplay footage in the trailer we can already see the focus of some of the changes.

There’s one big problem with all of this though. Read more [+]

E3 2009: Mario Returns To The Wii

Many expected the return of Nintendo’s mustached mascot at their E3 press conference this year, but not many knew that two whole new games are set for release on the Wii. Carrie Dunaway and Reggie Fils-Aimie of Nintendo both took the Mario-littered stage to announce New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Super Mario Galaxy 2. Trailers were presented for each game so read on for the videos and details.

Review: Street Fighter IV

Official Site - Street Fighter IV

For ten long years fans have been waiting, through countless spin-offs and alterations on past titles to all sorts of ports and remakes, Street Fighter has had a long history in the arcade and on home consoles. Though the series has seen such a legacy there are some underlying foundations that remain right through to this latest installment, with a vibrant art style and wonderful characters, combos and controls all within a solid technical fighting game that can be learned in a day or mastered in a lifetime.

At its core Street Fighter IV is recognisable and instantly playable by anyone who has handled the earlier games. Two fighters duke it out on a 2D plane with a variety of combos and abilities unique to each character, with most abilities performed just the same as before. The combos can range from the simple to the absurd, and as each is custom tailored to a character a steep learning curve exists for anyone wanting to gain the skill to step into the online arena.

Street Fighter IV will feel familiar, for sure, but anyone expecting to simply carry across past skills without respect for new abilities such as the Focus Attack and Revenge Ultra will definitely end up paying the price. Read more [+]

E3 2009: More Monkey Madness

After rumors of a resurface for the Monkey Island series just a week before E3, it was no real surprise to find a confirmation on the original The Secret Of Monkey Island being re-released for XBOX Live Arcade. That’s not all though, not by a long shot, as not only is the original adventure being re-released and updated, but a whole new 5 part adventure titled Tales Of Monkey Island is soon to be released from Telltale Games.

July 7th will see the first chapter of Tales Of Monkey Island released for PC and WiiWare via online distribution from Telltale Games service, similar to the new Sam N Max and Strongbad adventure games. A full 3D adventure, the trailer shows off a new graphical style and a more mature Guybrush Threepwood as he again attempts to save the citizens of Melee from the wrath of LeChuck and consequences of his own tomfoolery.

Each chapter is estimated to be up to 4 hours long and with the series starting soon there isn’t much time to pre-order the collector’s edition DVD available once all the chapters are out. Check out the trailer below for a sample of what to expect. Read more [+]

E3 2009: Team Ninja To Create Next Metroid Wii Title

E3 2009 is already wrapped up for another year but the effects of the news and announcements will ripple through the gaming community for many more months to come.

Perhaps not the biggest, but one of the more surprising announcements came from a Mr. Reggie Fils-Aime at Nintendo’s press conference early on in the event when a trailer for the next Metroid game on the Wii was revealed.

It wasn’t just amazing to see Samus flipping out again on the Wii, the most notable side to this announcement is simply the fact that Team Ninja (Dead Or Alive; Ninja Gaiden) are working on a Metroid game and the possibilities in crazy action-based gameplay this collaboration could allow.

Just check out the trailer and see for yourself, clearly Read more [+]
