The Last Airbender teaser

M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender (an adaption of the Emmy award winning Nickelodeon animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender) has been on my radar for a while but with little reason to think it won’t just be Dragonball Evolution all over again. Well the teaser trailer is out and it actually looks pretty cool, sure it doesn’t show us much of what the movie will be and Shyamalan has a habbit of releasing great trailers for subpar films but it’s something and shows us that the star Noah Ringer has got some sweet moves. Now if only they could come up with a non-racist reason for the white-washed cast.

Oh God I hope it’s not as bad as Dragonball Evolution.

The art style and shot of the Fire Nation invasion in that trailer looked fitting but the short shot of Aang is a little worrying, he seemed a bit too mature and dark for his character.

I hope they don’t mess with this much.

Hopefully the serious Aang in the trailer isn’t all we get but there are many episodes of the show in which Aang is moody and serious.

DBE looked bad right from the beginning, people saw what little was available and SCORNED it…and we were right! Now comes along good ol Aang to try his luck at some live action fun…next it’ll be Naruto then Bleach then next thing you know you’re watching live action Pokemon…where does it end? LEAVE ANIMATION ALONE HOLLYWOOD, IT DOES NOT WANT YOU!

Hmm, intriguing. What little I’ve seen of Avatar it looked like an excellent show with great characters and action. On the one hand I admired the show for reveling in the lack of boundaries animation has in terms of crazy over the top elemental action sequences. But then again I did wish they didn’t animate on threes (8fps) so perhaps the inherent smoothness of live action will be welcome.

What a tease… not enough there to tell if it will actually be a good representation of the characters or style… thanks for the review :)
