“There came a day, a day unlike any other. When Earth’s mightiest heroes found themselves united against a common threat, to fight the foes no single superhero could withstand. On that day, The Avengers were born.”
The Avengers cometh. Well, not yet, but the above teaser trailer (more like an audio byte with some handsome animation) will surely do for now.
Last month’s Comic-con saw geek-favourite Joss Whedon announced as the man tasked with the challenge of making Hollywood’s superheroes come together as a single team ‘united against a common threat.’
Around the same time, romcom star Marc Ruffalo was presented as our new Hulk – the third in as many appearances under the new Marvel Studios banner – while Jeremy Renner stepped up as Hawkeye.
“The thing about Hawkeye, he’s got his bows and arrows, you need somebody who’s very very down to earth, who’s very grounded, and who’s going to be the kind of guy who, you see him, and you understand why he likes to be far away from things and then shoot at them. Jeremy, he just has a lovely quality,” Whedon told MTV recently.
“I’m stunned that we landed [Marc Ruffalo], just stunned. He has what I remember loving about the show, that quality of, you just look at him and you go through it with him, he invites you in in a way that [no] other performer has since Bill Bixby. He is a guy who’s been beaten up by life, but not defined by that. That’s what I want from Bruce Banner, is a guy who’s still getting it done, even though he has his problem.”

More exciting, though not for any technically good reason, are the rumours that Mal Reynolds Nathan Fillion is in talks to play Antman.
I can’t imagine what the talks would consist of. He’s a fan favourite, a proven performer with a successful TV series, and he’d very likely take on this role for next-to-nothing. So, we remain hopeful.
On the pants-wand front, Eva Longoria is rumoured to play Wasp. You know they’ll only ever cast a hottie for this role, so whether it’s Longoria or not, we anticipate lots of muffled fapfapfapping in the cinemas either way.
Moving on…
