Stone Sour has emerged on the music scene silently and swiftly, but their music is far from subtle. Coming from their debut album expecting no critical acclamation, Stone Sour’s latest serving “Come What(ever) May” has got people talking. With the talent of Corey Taylor (vocals), James Root (guitar), Josh Rand (guitar), Shawn Economaki (bass), and Roy Mayorga (drums), Stone Sour has established themselves quite firmly in the nu-metal genre, with the main goal of serving up no bullshit rock’n’roll music to the hungry metal fans.

The album has a diverse compilation of acoustic and rib crushing metal tracks. The album starts of with the track “30/30-150”, a heavy song that defines the Stone Sour sound, and explores the issue of music scene today, the almost dead industry of no talent music. Corey Taylor blends the harsh vocals of Slipknot and creates a vast vocal plane that sets up the album. Track 2, “Come What(ever) May” is a political protest against the president of the United States, undoubtedly George W Bush, where the lines “what the fuck is free about it?” add a fine touch to the song. Track no.8 “Through Glass” shows the emotional side of Corey Taylor, something he couldn’t write for Slipknot. With its unforgettable melody and chorus it leaves you singing it in your head for weeks on end. The song “Cardiff” really shines the bands talent with elements of old school metal incorporated in the track. The creeping melody of the verse and thunderous chorus play with your head, leaving you awed. The final track “Zzyxz rd” shows the deeper side of Corey’s lyrical writing, a direct relation to “Through Glass”, another catchy song lies subliminally in your mind.

The band succeeds in their goal for bringing pure rock music to the mainstream. With all the crap on today charts and TV programs *cough*MTV*cough*. We are in need of a band like Stone Sour to set everything straight. “The intensity, The drama, The emotion, The colours, The darkness, The melodies, The anger, The honesty, The drive, The new, All of the above and more.” Is what Corey describes the album and I couldn’t agree more. This album is a great addition to anyone’s music collection and should be picked up some time or another.
